Thank you for your request.

The Living Costs and Food Survey (LCF) is a UK household survey designed to provide information on household expenditure patterns and food consumption.

Table A45 shows that for the period April 2020 to March 2021 90% of private households in the UK had a home computer and 93% of households had access to a mobile telephone (details of the capabilities of the mobile phone are not collected).

The Internet Access Survey results derived from the Opinions and Lifestyle Survey (OPN) also provided information on this topic. Estimates for January to February 2020 show 84% of adults (aged 16+) in Great Britain used a smartphone for private use.

Unfortunately, we do not collect or hold data on:

  • Distribution of computers by operating system

  • Percentile of smart phones by manufacturer and operating system

  • Percentage of people using basic mobile phones (details of households with access to mobile phones are included above)

Although the ONS does not collect data on these areas, you may wish to consider the Office of Communications Technology Tracker, which also collects data on take-up, usage and attitudes towards internet, landline, mobile, TV and radio services. Please find the most recent Report here: Ofcom technology Tracker 2022-Technical Report.
