You asked

What percentage of pensioner households will have assets of over a million?

We said

Thank you for your request.

We produce household and individual wealth estimates, using data collected on the Wealth and Assets Survey (WAS) which is collected on a biennial basis and most recently published for Round 8 (April 2020 to March 2022).

In our most recent household total wealth estimates, released in January 2025, 22% of individuals aged 65+ lived in a household with a total wealth of £1 million or more for the period of April 2020 to March 2022. This figure is not comparable to previous data due to a break in the time series where the method used to estimate private pension wealth changed. More information about our updated pension method can be found on our website

These estimates are available in table 2.11 (Individuals by age, by household total wealth) of the total wealth tables.

If you are interested in exploring our data further it is available on the UK Data Service . For each release of WAS (Wave 1 to Round 8) you can access the microdata underlying the Wealth and Assets Survey, as well as the questionnaires and other accompanying documents for WAS.
