We are responsible for publishing birth statistics for England and Wales, from information supplied when births are registered as part of civil registration, a legal requirement.
We do not hold statistics for multiple births by region, however the number of maternities with multiple births, and the multiple maternity rate for England and Wales for 1938 to 2017 is available in table 13 of our birth characteristics publication: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/datasets/birthcharacteristicsinenglandandwales
