Please can you tell me what information is provided by UK companies ie Banks, Building Societies etc to the Office for National Statistics about money held in savings and bank accounts.

Also, please tell me what is the frequency with which this information is provided and if the provision of this information is mandatory. Assuming this is so, please let me know under which UK and/or EU legislation it is mandatory to provide this information.

Thank you for your enquiry. We do not receive any data from Banks or Building Societies about money held in saving or bank accounts directly. All survey data is collected and compiled by the Bank of England and supplied to ONS as aggregated series.
