Thank you for your request.

Our Crime in England and Wales: Police Force Area data tables provide the number of offences involving knife and sharp instruments reported to each police force area (PFA) since the year ending March 2011 (Table P6). They also provide a breakdown by offence type (including homicide) in table P5. Please note that all data in our tables are for financial year only, however you may find the Police recorded crime open data tables useful, specifically the 'Offences involving knives or sharp instruments open data year ending March 2009 onwards' table, as you are able to filter the data by quarter to create a calendar year.

At a national level, our Homicide in England and Wales appendix tables also include data on the method of killing (including knives and sharp instruments) in a time series back to year ending March 2012 in Worksheet 8, however this data is not split by PFA.

Unfortunately, we do not hold data on the age of victims or perpetrators of offences involving knife or sharp instruments at the police force area level. Table 9 and Table 10 of our Homicide tables include data on the age and sex of the victims of homicide by knife or sharp instrument in a time series back to 2012, but again this data is not split by PFA.

We do not hold data on offenders of knife and sharp instrument offences. The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) are primarily responsible for data on offenders. They publish statistics each quarter which may be of help to you. If you have any questions, the Ministry of Justice may be able to help you further and can be contacted at ESD@justice.gov.uk.
