Thank you for your enquiry in relation to intimate partner violence in the UK over the last decade.
Our recently released publication ‘Domestic abuse: findings from the Crime Survey in England and Wales’ provides statistics on domestic abuse including prevalence rates and types of abuse. The data is collected from the Crime Survey for England and Wales, a victimisation survey of people resident in households in England and Wales.
The Appendix tables that are produced as part of this publication may be of interest to you. Table 4 provides the prevalence of domestic abuse in the last year among women aged 16 to 59 in England and Wales for the year ending March 2005 to the year ending March 2018.
Tables 8 shows the prevalence of domestic abuse in the last year by ethnicity for women aged 16 to 59 for the year ending March 2018. Table 10 provides the same information but for women aged 60 to 74. We do not regularly publish data on the prevalence of domestic abuse by country of birth.
It may be possible to provide this data for you. As the number of respondents from the survey of a West African nationality would be small, we may only be able to produce this analysis by combining a number of years of data. Therefore we wouldn't be able to provide the annual data you have requested. However, if this is something you would be interested in, please contact the crime statistics team directly at crimestatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
