Thank you for your enquiry.

The UK Business: Activity, size and location publication contains the number of businesses registered for VAT and/or PAYE broken down by Standard Industrial Classification (SIC.) The publication started in 1971 but at this point only manufacturing sites were included. It did not cover the whole economy until 1985, therefore, unfortunately we do not hold the information you require on changes in numbers of hotels in the UK from the end of the 19th century to the 1960’s.

Your additional request was regarding total revenue and industrial output. Please see attached extracts taken from the United Kingdom Annual Business Inquiry (ABI) and Annual Business Survey (ABS) for the following sectors;

  • Section I - Accommodation and food service activities (2008-2013 from the ABS)

  • Section H - Hotels and restaurants (1997-2007 from the ABI)

The reason for the break in the series was the change of Standard industrial Classification between 2007 and 2008.

Total revenue for the sector would be equivalent to the variable 'Total turnover' in the attached extracts. Industrial output is not a measure used in the service sector.

We do not hold information on the total revenue and net profit of Disneyland.
