Thank you for your query regarding infant mortality for infant of Bangladeshi and Pakistani ethnic origin.
Infant mortality rates by ethnicity are available from our annual release 'Pregnancy and ethnic factors influencing births and infant mortality'. The latest release is available on our website at the following address: www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/causesofdeath/bulletins/pregnancyandethnicfactorsinfluencingbirthsandinfantmortality/2015-10-14#ethnicity
Table 8 in the accompanying dataset for England and Wales gives more detail: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/causesofdeath/bulletins/pregnancyandethnicfactorsinfluencingbirthsandinfantmortality/2015-10-14/relateddata
The latest data available is for babies born in 2013, Data for 2007 to 2012 is available in the Gestation specific infant mortality datasets which can be downloaded using the following link: http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20160105160709/http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/guide-method/user-guidance/health-and-life-events/index.html
Figures for births and infant deaths by ethnicity are derived from a linked dataset of birth registration records with NHS birth notification records. These data are then further linked to death registration records for babies who died before their first birthday. We do not hold consistently linked data for births occurring before 2007.
Further breakdowns of the data (for example at local area level) are not routinely produced however special extracts and tabulations of data for England & Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). Such enquires should be made to the Life Events Analysis team: cim@ons.gov.uk.
As this information is already available to you via this route ONS considers that S21(1) applies to this request and the information does not have to be supplied under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act. S21(1) is an absolute exemption and no consideration of the public interest test needs to be applied.
