Thank you for your recent queries regarding infant mortality data.

  1. The earliest year that ONS holds infant or neonatal mortality data at Council level electronically is 1974. There are no infant mortality or neonatal rates available electronically at Council level for 1988, 1989 or 1990

  2. On the ONS website, the earliest year that infant and neonatal mortality rates are available is 1991 in Key Population and Vital Statistics

  3. There have been three FOI requests made in 2015 regarding pre-1985 infant mortality data by area. One of these requests specified infant mortality rates for all Councils in England. The other two requests specified infant mortality figures by Area Health Authority. These three FOI requests originated from yourself

  4. There have been no requests from Members of Parliament for pre-1985 infant mortality data at Council level since 3 March 2015
