You asked
I would like to request Household Reference Person data for the area detailed in the map on page 9 of the Weymouth Neighbourhood Plan.
Please provide this data for the last three census collections:
Census 2021
Census 2011
Census 2001
We said
Thank you for your freedom of information request.
The broad picture of population change can be followed from census to census, but as each census has evolved to reflect and keep up with changes in society, direct comparison does not necessarily provide a good source of information about detailed change over time. Changes in the questions asked, in the categories used to present results, in the terminology and in geographical boundaries, mean that each census primarily provides a "cross sectional" picture of the country at the time.
At the time of the 2001 and 2011 Censuses, Weymouth and Portland was a local authority within the county of Dorset. On April 1 2019, 2 Unitary Authorities (UAs) were created. The UAs of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole were merged, and the districts of East Dorset, North Dorset, Purbeck and Weymouth and Portland were merged to form Dorset UA.
In order to provide data for your specified area, I have provided the wards that fit your boundary. The wards are the same for 2011 and 2001 Censuses but for Census 2021 the same area is constituted of 6 wards.
The associated download provides a spreadsheet with similar datasets for 2001, 2011 and 2021 for Household Reference Person (HRP). An HRP is a person who serves as a reference point, mainly based on economic activity, to characterise a whole household.
The 2011 and 2011 Census datasets have been downloaded from Nomis. Nomis is a service run on behalf of the ONS. The Census 2021 dataset has been downloaded from our Create a Custom Dataset tool.
