We said

The Wealth and Assets Survey (WAS) samples around 20,000 households in Great Britain over a 2-year period with the latest data available referring to July 2014 to June 2016. Due to the overall survey sample size, we do not publish local authority level data. Household debt data is available on a regional level; therefore, we can meet your request for household debt data for the North East of England from July 2010 to June 2016. We are unable to provide future projections of household debt after this date.

Debt, as measured by the wealth and assets survey (WAS), is split into 2 types which are added together to establish a household’s total debt. These types are:

Financial liabilities - borrowing such as: overdrafts; loans; outstanding balance on credit or store cards; mail order or hire Purchase; student loans; or any arrears on credit commitments or household bills.

Mortgage liabilities - any loans secured on a property – main residence and any privately owned other properties in or outside of the UK and the value of any equity release secured on properties.

Household debt data for the East of England for the period July 2010 to June 2016 is attached.
