Thank you for your recent enquiry in relation to (a) the number of domestic homicides of men and women broken down by suspect relationship (b) the number of domestic homicides which took place at work and (c) the number of homicides of men and women for the years 2015-2019.

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide information to answer all the elements of your request, as we do not hold data for homicides which have occurred in the workplace.

Within our Homicide in England and Wales, year ending March 2019 publication we present data on offences currently recorded as homicide for all victims, by relationship of victim to principal suspect (Appendix Table 10a and 10b). This data is available for all years from March 2009 to March 2019.  Homicide includes the offences of murder, manslaughter, corporate manslaughter and infanticide.

In Appendix Table 11a and 11b we publish the same breakdown, but for victims aged 16 and over, which is in line with the definition of domestic abuse and therefore may be more relevant for you. Also within this set of tables, we publish the location of homicides by sex of victim (Appendix Table 15a and 15b). This is also available for all years from March 2009 to March 2019, but we do not include 'work' in this breakdown.

The Domestic abuse prevalence and trends, England and Wales: year ending March 2019 publication may also be of interest to you. In this publication, we report on the number of domestic homicides in England and Wales. In Appendix table 20, you will find the latest data available for the number of domestic homicides broken down by sex of the victim. This table presents Homicide Index data for the combined three-years ending March 2016 – 2018. This data is not available for single years.

Appendix table 22, also based on the combined three-years ending March 2016 – 2018 data, presents the number of domestic homicides in England and Wales broken down by sex of victim and relationship to perpetrator, including whether they were a partner or family member. This data is not available for single years.

Additionally, within the Domestic abuse victim characteristics, England and Wales: year ending March 2019 article you will find further information on victims of domestic homicide. This article provides a breakdown of victim characteristics by suspect characteristics for both domestic homicide and non-domestic homicide, based on the Homicide Index (see Appendix Table 21). This data is also based on the combined three-years ending March 2016 – 2018 and is not available for single years.

The Homicide Index is managed by the Home Office, who are also contactable by e-mail and may be able to help you further with your request. Their contact details are CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.
