Please provide the figure for the UK population who will get the chance to vote at their first General Election in 2022 (ie numbers of the UK population reaching the age of 18 between 2017 and 2022).
We said
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request about first time voters at the 2022 General Election.
We publish electoral statistics. These only contain the number of 17 year olds who will reach the age of 18 during the currency of the register ie after 1 December of the published year and before 1 December of the following year.
Our published population estimates contain the number of 13 year olds as at 2017. However, care must be taken in using these data for that purpose as the population estimates include some people who are not eligible to vote and exclude some people who are eligible to vote (for example, overseas electors).
Our latest (mid-2016 based) population projections show how we expect the population to grow if currently observed trends continue.
