  • Of those (a) Looked After Children, (b) Care Leavers aged 18-25) and (c) Care Experienced people aged 18+ sentenced to prison in the UK, what type of accommodation where they placed with upon leaving prison 

  • How many a) Looked After Children, (b) Care Leavers aged 18-25) and (c) Care Experienced people aged 18+ became homeless following leaving prison (1) immediately (2) within 1 month (3) within 6 months (4) within a year, (5) more than a year 

  • How many a) Looked After Children, (b) Care Leavers aged 18-25) and (c) Care Experienced people aged 18+ were homeless prior to their contact with the CJS 

  • How many (a) Looked After Children, (b) Care Leavers aged 18-25) and (c) Care Experienced people aged 18+ leaving prison are referred to support services 

    • What type of support services are they referring to 
    • How does the number of referrals and types of services referred to compare to non-Care Experienced people of the same age range 
  • How many (a) Looked After Children, (b) Care Leavers aged 18-25) and (c) Care Experienced people aged 18+ have died (1) whilst in prison, (2) within 6 months of leaving prison, (3) during the course of a suspended sentence (4) within 6 months of ending a suspended sentence (5) whilst working with probation services (6) within 6 months of finishing working with probation services  

    • Of this number, how many were self-inflicted deaths 
  • How many (a) Looked After Children, (b) Care Leavers aged 18-25) and (c) Care Experienced people aged 18+ have died (1) following police contact (2) following a court appearance  

    • Of this number, how many were self-inflicted deaths 
  • Of those (a) Looked After Children, (b) Care Leavers aged 18-25) and (c) Care Experienced people aged 18+ (1) with contact with the CJS (2) criminally convicted without a prison sentence (3) sentenced to prison in the UK, how many were parents  

    • Of this number, what was the average of their children 
  • Of those (a) Looked After Children, (b) Care Leavers aged 18-25) and (c) Care Experienced people aged 18+ (1) with contact with the CJS (2) criminally convicted without a prison sentence (3) sentenced to prison in the UK, how many were NEET (not in education, employment or training) 

  • Of those (a) Looked After Children, (b) Care Leavers aged 18-25) and (c) Care Experienced people aged 18+ (1) with contact with the CJS (2) criminally convicted without a prison sentence (3) sentenced to prison in the UK, how many reported struggling to read or write 

  • Any further data/information on the impact of (1) contact with the CJS (2) a criminal conviction (3) a custodial sentence on the later life outcomes of  (a) Looked After Children, (b) Care Leavers aged 18-25) and (c) Care Experienced people aged 18+ in the UK

  • How this number is broken down by gender 

  • Of this number, how many were diagnosed with a disability/chronic illness 

  • Of this, how many were diagnosed with (1) SEN/neurodiversity (2) mental illness (3) physical illness 

  • How this number is broken down by country within the UK 

  • How this number is broken down by region within England 

  • How does this compare to non-Care Experienced people of the same demographics

Unfortunately, we do not hold data on looked after children, care leavers or care experienced people and their contact with the criminal justice system. We are unable to provide the statistics that you have requested. 

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) are primarily responsible for data on offenders and publish official statistics relating to the operation of the criminal and civil justice systems and may be able to provide some data requested. They can be contacted at CJS_Statistics@justice.gov.uk. Additionally, the Department for Education holds data on looked after children and care leavers.
