I am writing in response to your Freedom of Information request for breakdowns of white and ethnic minority employment, unemployment and economic inactivity data for Scotland and Glasgow, by gender and age band from the Annual Population Survey.

The Office for National Statistics produces a range of labour market statistics for local areas by ethnic group, which are published on our Nomis website (https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/) The published data includes rates of employment, unemployment and economic inactivity by gender for local areas. However, this data is not further broken down by age bands.

Your request asks for information for the 12 months ending in March 2016 and March 2011, however, due to changes made to the questionnaire between December 2010 and January 2011, the earliest data on a consistent basis with the latest figures, relates to January to December 2011. Figures for January to December 2010 are also available, but will be based on different questions, leading to some discontinuities. Figures for periods between these dates are not available, since different parts of the survey would not be consistent.

The spreadsheet attached contains the employment, unemployment and economic inactivity rates, for white and ethnic minorities, in Scotland and Glasgow, by gender, for the periods January to December 2011 and April 2016 to March 2015. All of the attached data has been extracted from Nomis.

The estimates in the attached spreadsheet include an indicator of the quality through a confidence interval calculated for the rates. Some of these confidence intervals are quite high, particularly for Glasgow, before attempting to further break the data down by age.

Although we do not produce regular analysis by age band, you can request an ad-hoc analysis be produced to give this detailed information from our social surveys division. Information on how to make such a request are given on our website. As explained on the website, such ad-hoc analysis requests may incur a charge. https://www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/whatwedo/statistics/requestingstatistics/makingarequest
