You asked
Would you be able to provide recent statistics of employment in clinical psychology and ethnic background data please?
We said
Thank you for your enquiry.
We produce employment estimates broken down by occupation and ethnicity from the Annual Population Survey (APS), however these are only available at a very broad level of occupation grouping. The latest estimates are available via nomis here: http://www.nomisweb.co.uk/livelinks/14655.xlsx
We use the UK Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) to categorise occupations. Further information on SOC can be found here: https://www.ons.gov.uk/methodology/classificationsandstandards/standardoccupationalclassificationsoc/soc2010
SOC includes a category on psychologists but not specifically clinical psychologists. Estimates of psychologists in employment are available here https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/datasets/aps168/reports/employment-by-occupation?compare=K02000001
Unfortunately, there is no ethnicity breakdown as we do not hold estimates at this level of detail.
We may be able to create something for you via our bespoke service. Such analysis would fall outside of the Freedom of Information regime and is subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate. Such enquiries should be made to the customer services team of ONS's Social Surveys Division (socialsurveys@ons.gov.uk). However, please be aware that the sample size may be too small to provide usable estimates in this case.
Another route would be to access the anonymised LFS datasets at the UK Data Service if you are able to run your own analysis. Data can be downloaded free of charge for non-commercial purposes but if charges are applicable, you will be notified during the ordering process. Details of how to access the data can be found here: http://ukdataservice.ac.uk/get-data/how-to-access.aspx.
Alternatively, data on clinical psychologists may potentially be available via the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) who keep a register of psychologists, including clinical psychologists. Further information on the HCPC can be found here: https://www.hcpc-uk.org/
