You asked

  1. What constitutes 'Full Time Employment' for any person included in your published monthly employment figures?

  2. If Self Employment is included in the answer to question 1 above as a 'Full Time Occupation' then how many hours must a Self Employed person work to be classed as working full time?

Response

  1. Estimates of full-time employment published by the ONS are sourced from the Labour Force Survey (LFS). The LFS is a household survey and respondents in employment are asked questions relating to their employment status. The classification as in either full-time or part-time employment is based purely on the respondent's view of the amount of work they do. It is not based on the hours actually worked

  2. Full-time self-employed people are included in the estimates of full-time employment and are classified under the same criteria as is described in 1 above
