You asked

I was wondering if it was possible to get statistics on the increase of driving offences and car accidents due to a alcohol hangover or drink driving?

We said

Thank you for your request regarding driving offences and road accidents due to the influence of alcohol. Police recorded crime data published as part of our Crime in England and Wales quarterly bulletins provide a breakdown of driving offences under the category of ‘Death or serious injury caused by illegal driving’ and ‘Miscellaneous offences against society’. You can find this breakdown in Appendix Table A4. The only driving offence which references the use of alcohol is ‘Causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs’.

We do not publish data relating to road accidents, these are published by the Department for Transport (DfT).

DfT publish an annual report on road casualties and within this report they present data on drinking and driving. You can find the latest ‘Reported road casualties Great Britain, annual report: 2016’ report on their website.

DfT are also contactable by e-mail: roadacc.stats@dft.gsi.gov.uk and they may be able to provide you with more information.

If you would like any further information, email us at CrimeStatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
