Dental practices in Tyne and Wear

Thank you for your request. The answers to your questions are as follows;

1. The total number of dental practices registered in Tyne and Wear is 140 (as of 2017).

2. The ONS estimates the number of people working in different occupations in local areas from the Annual Population Survey (APS). Individuals are classified to occupations based on their responses at interview using the Standard Occupational Classification 2010 (SOC2010). Due to small sample size it is not practical to give an estimate for the number of dentists in Tyne and Wear, however we are able to estimate that in the twelve month period October 2016 to September 2017, there were 1,700 dental practitioners resident in the North East.

   Although less timely, the Census is able to provide estimates of numbers employed in detailed occupations in local areas. According to the 2011 Census, there were 703 people employed as dental practitioners resident in Tyne and Wear.

   The classification of dental practitioner includes dentists, dental surgeons, orthodontists and periodontists.

3. The total number of children aged 7 to 18 In Tyne and Wear is 144,809.

   The total number of children aged 8 to 17 in Tyne and Wear is 118,415.
