Please provide the number of deaths that have occurred directly from COVID-19, as recorded on the death certificate.

Information on deaths due to COVID-19 for 2020 are recorded weekly and presented in the downloadable datafile under Figure 2 of the following bulletin: Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional. This publication is updated every Tuesday.

We use the term "due to COVID-19" when referring only to deaths where that illness was recorded as the underlying cause of death. We use the term "involving COVID-19" when referring to deaths that had that illness mentioned anywhere on the death certificate, whether as an underlying cause or not.

Therefore, the information requested for England and Wales is available in the third column of the following table, titled 'Deaths due to COVID-19' or in Column F of aforementioned downloadable datafile.
