FOI REF: FOI/2022/4602

You asked

How many children in England and Wales have died of COVID-19 where COVID-19 was the main cause of death?

We said

Thank you for your request.

We hold the following analysis: Single year of age and average age of death of people whose death was due to or involved coronavirus (COVID-19).

The latest available data is for October 2022, with November data due to be published on 23 December 2022.

We use the term "due to COVID-19" when referring only to deaths with an underlying cause of death as COVID-19 and we use the term "involving COVID-19" when referring to deaths that had COVID-19 mentioned anywhere on the death certificate.

From March 2020 to October 2022, there are 88 deaths registered as due to COVID-19 in England and Wales. This is for the age under 1 to age 18 age band.

Data for 2022 is still provisional, this is to allow the inclusion of late registrations which are deaths that have been referred to the coroner and is therefore subject to change.
