Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Crowborough in line with our disclosure control policy: Policy on protecting confidentiality in tables of birth and death statistics. At this geography level, the death count is very small and therefore could prove to be disclosive. Section 39 of the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007 (SRSA) renders it an offence to disclose information held by the Statistics Board that would identify an individual or body corporate. This includes individuals that are deceased. Because the disclosure of this information is prohibited by law, we find that Section 44 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies. Section 44 is an absolute exemption and no consideration of the public interest test needs to be applied.

However, I can provide the following information, which may be of use to you.

Death registrations and occurrences by local authority and health board is published on a weekly basis, and this provides provisional counts of the number of deaths registered in England and Wales, including deaths involving the coronavirus (COVID-19), by local authority, health board and place of death in the latest weeks for which data are available. These figures are based on deaths by area of usual residence.

The difference between the two totals of COVID-19 deaths for the same area is due to the time that these two different releases have been compiled and delays in the registration of the death. Our bulletin Impact of Registration Delays on mortality statistics will explain in more detail.
