You asked

Please provide information regarding the number of deaths which occur from a heart attack and cardiac arrest whilst they are at home.

Please could I request the data for the amount of white men and their age who suffered a heart attack and/or cardiac arrest at home and subsequently unfortunately died whilst at home in London, as well as the time and date it happened from 2017 to 2020.

Could I please also ask if you can tell me the amount of patients who were also Covid positive at the time of their attack in 2020?

Thank you for your enquiry.

Please see the following publication: Deaths in private homes: England and Wales. This provides deaths in private homes by age, sex and leading cause of death from December 2019 to September 2020. However, this shows deaths from all heart-related issues (under ischemic heart disease), rather than heart attacks specifically.

We do not currently hold a breakdown of deaths from 2017 to 2019 due to heart attacks only. However, we may be able to create a bespoke dataset, with information on deaths in private homes for 2017 to 2019. These are subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate. If you would like to discuss the provision of bespoke analysis, please email Health.Data@ons.gov.uk.

Provisional mortality data for 2020 are only released via our weekly and monthly mortality analysis publications under special measures with a provisional caveat. Given the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, we have increased our output of provisional data to aid specialist modelling work and to provide further information alongside our weekly deaths publication.

We have not undertaken analysis on deaths from heart attacks in 2020 nor have we undertaken analysis on those who have died from heart attacks where COVID-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate. In order to fulfil this part of your request, we would need to create a bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.

We are also unable to provide information regarding time of death and ethnicity as this is not recorded as part of the death registration process. Therefore, we do not hold this information.
