Since Jan 2020 to date 21 November 2020, how many people have died from COVID-19 only.

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

Within our Deaths Registered Weekly publication, we publish deaths where COVID-19 is the underlying cause of death and where COVID-19 has been mentioned on the death Certificate.  We use the term 'Due to COVID-19' when referring to deaths where COVID-19 was recorded as the underlying cause of death. We use the term 'involving COVID-19' when referring to deaths that had the illness mentioned anywhere on the death certificate, whether as an underlying cause or not.

Deaths involving and due to COVID-19, England and Wales, deaths registered in 2020

Deaths involving a pre-existing condition can be found in the following dataset: Deaths involving COVID-19, England and Wales. This publication states that, between March and June 2020, there were 4,476 deaths involving COVID-19 where there are no pre-existing conditions. The following table provides deaths from COVID-19 with no pre-existing conditions broken down by age brackets.

Table 6a: Number of deaths involving COVID-19 by main pre-existing condition, sex and age, England and Wales, deaths occurring between March and June 2020

The latest data available is up to June 2020, as this publication has been now been paused. Therefore, in order to provide this information for the months July to November, we would need to create bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.
