I know that death certificates contain information about occupation, as well as sex, and age. I also know that it is possible to state whether a death 'involved COVID'.

I would like access to a granular dataset that describes both (a) deaths involving COVID; and (b) all deaths. I would like this data to be available on a day-by-day basis. Crucially, I would like this dataset to be split by each of the demographic factors listed above. I would like this data going back as far as possible, but from at least the start of 2020.

So, for 1st January 2020, one row of this dataset would look like the following:

Another row of the dataset might look like:

Thank you for your enquiry.

Please see the following publication: COVID-19-related deaths by occupation in England and Wales. This provides provisional analysis of deaths involving the coronavirus (COVID-19), by different occupational groups, among men and women aged 20 to 64 years in England and Wales.

The dataset accompanying this publication provides provisional counts of the number of deaths and age-standardised mortality rates involving the coronavirus (COVID-19), by occupational groups, for deaths registered between 9 March and 28 December 2020 in England and Wales. Figures are provided for both males and females. Specifically, this dataset provides data comparing deaths of those in particular occupations from COVID-19 and from all causes, split by male and female.

In order to provide a dataset with the specific variables you have requested, we would need to create bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.

Bespoke services will be available for 2020 data once the data has been finalised in the summer of 2021.
