Please provide information related to table A32 – Household expenditure by tenure 2017 which is available here. The table currently splits expenditure on different commodity/service by housing tenure and then further by different tenure sub-divisions.
The information I would like would be for these sub-divisions to be divided again to show the expenditure by tenure of different incomes deciles. The output would essentially be the same table but showing household expenditure broken down by tenure and income bracket.

Thank you for your email requesting information in relation to Family Spending.
We collect a range of UK expenditure data in the Living Costs and Food survey (LCF), which is a voluntary survey with round 5,000 responding households. The results of this survey are reproduced every year in Family Spending, the most recent of which was published as a statistical bulletin on 18th January 2018. Results presented in this bulletin cover the financial year from 1st April 2016 to 31st March 2017.
We are unable to release the specific information you have requested under the Freedom of Information Act as the information is already reasonably available via other means. Therefore the exemption found in section 21(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 applies.
The information you require is available through the commissioned service which the Living Costs and Food Survey team provides. As part of our bespoke Data Service we would be able to provide data to show expenditure by tenure of different income quintile groups at COICOP level for the following categories;
- Owned outright
- Buying with mortgage
- Social renters
- Private renters (including rent free)
Due to low sample sizes it would be necessary to collapse the tenure categories as described above and use income quintile groups rather than decile groups.
