We are responsible for the production of mortality statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.
The crude death rates for England and Wales, for deaths registered in each year from 1838 to 2025 are available in table 1 of our Deaths Registered in England and Wales release.
As we are still in the data collection period for deaths registered in 2026, we are unable to provide you with an annual crude rate for this year. However, provisional annualised age standardised mortality rates for deaths registered in 2026 are available in our Deaths Registered Weekly in England and Wales; Provisional release.
