Civil servants transferred between departments 2007 to 2018

In the years leading up to and including 2018, the ONS was responsible for the Civil Service statistical release, after which time responsibility transferred to the Cabinet Office. This request relates to the data reported in the years 2007-2018, inclusive.

The statistical releases do report entrants and leavers to the Civil Service but they do not report the number of civil servants that transferred between departments (whether on permanent terms or at the start/end of a loan). If this data is held, please disclose the number (headcount, not FTE) of civil servants that transferred between departments (whether on permanent terms or at the start/end of a loan) for each year between 2007 and 2018, including 2007 and 2018.

The headcount number of civil servants transferring between departments between 2009 to 2018 has been provided in the associated spreadsheet. For consistency with published outputs, estimates have been rounded to the nearest 10.

We do not hold the requested information for 2007 and 2008, as estimates were only collated in these years for permanent employees.
