Thank you for your request.

Unfortunately, we do not hold the requested information.

NHS Digital may be better placed to answer your enquiry regarding hospital admissions. For data pertaining to England, you may wish to contact NHS England at england.contactus@nhs.net. For data pertaining to Wales, please contact Public Health Wales at foi.phw@wales.nhs.uk.

We do hold deaths by the conditions you have mentioned. If you are interested in obtaining this information, please see the following details.

All of the conditions mentioned on the death certificate are coded using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) the coded mortality data available up to end of December 2021 is coded to version 2014 of the ICD10 framework. From all of these causes an underlying cause of death is selected using ICD-10 coding rules. The underlying cause of death is defined by World Health Organisation (WHO) as:

a) the disease or injury that initiated the train of events directly leading to death, or

b) the circumstances of the accident or violence that produced the fatal injury

We can provide information on deaths by the respiratory conditions you have requested. Respiratory mortality is coded between J00-J99

We have published mortality data by cause for 2013 to 2021 in the explorable dataset available on our NOMIS webservice. This explorable dataset can be used to extract figures where myocarditis was recorded as the underlying cause of death. Please see the following instructions for using this service:

  • Select Date – years available from 2013 to 2021
  • Select Age – All ages or 5 year age bands.

  • Select rates – All deaths, rates or percentage of population for example.

We have also a back series of data as part of our 21st century mortality, which contains all-cause mortality data by ICD code, age and sex, 2001-2021, England and Wales. These figures contain four-digit ICD codes which are sub groups of a cause. All codes relating to respiratory can be filtered in column A on J00-J99.

We can also produce custom requests from mortality data. Special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order. These services are subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs in line with our Charging Policy
