We said

Thank you for your request.

We estimate the number of people working in different occupations using the Annual Population Survey (APS) based on interviews with residents in households in the UK.

Each quarter, a variety of results from the APS are published on our Nomis website including a dataset that looks at occupation (SOC2020) by sex, employment status and full/part time.

This dataset is available over time and broken down by the regions and countries of the UK. By selecting the appropriate geographies, sex, date and employment status combinations, along with your occupation of interest, you can produce a timeseries of data for that occupation.

Unfortunately, we do not routinely produce this information broken down by age band. You could request an ad-hoc analysis to be produced including this additional dimension by emailing our social surveys team. There may be a charge for this service depending on the amount of time taken to develop the analysis and undertake quality and disclosure control processes.

Our earliest datasets coded to SOC2020 relate to January to December 2021. Periods before that are coded to SOC2010. Data relating to periods from 2006 to January to December 2021 are available in a separate dataset for occupation (SOC2010) by sex by employment by type.
