You asked
I would like to know how much you spend on health surveys by illness.
We said
Thank you for you recent request.
You have asked how much we spend on health surveys broken down by type of illness or illness family over a particular period. Unfortunately we do not hold the information necessary to fulfil your request.
The following link is to our website and outlines all household and individual surveys we undertake:
https://www.ons.gov.uk/surveys/informationforhouseholdsandindividuals/householdandindividualsurveys
We do not carry out any health specific surveys; we will not hold information on any health surveys that we have conducted under commission to third party organisations. For example, the Child Mental Health Survey belongs to NHS Digital, so your request may be best placed with them.
The release you have quoted in your request, Avoidable Mortality in England and Wales, is not created using survey data, this information is collected from death certificates provided by the General Register Office.
Some of our larger surveys do contain health elements. However, it would not be possible for us to provide figures on the costing for these individual elements as we do not hold this information.
The overall annual costs for the surveys containing health elements are as follows;
Survey into Living Conditions - £1,154,884
Opinions and Lifestyle Survey - £1,065,935
Labour Force Survey - £12,291,588
Living Costs & Food Survey - £2,000,000
For additional background information on these particular surveys, please see the associated attachment.
