You asked
I would like to make a FOI into the patient outcomes of people diagnosed with bowel cancer through screening. I would like to know the mortality of patients diagnosed with bowel cancer (through screening) by NHS region. If this could be done for 2023-2024.
If the above cannot be provided, I would like to know the survival outcome of bowel cancer for 2023-2024, ideally by NHS region.
I would also like to know the breakdown of bowel cancer screening uptake by gender in each NHS region for 2023-2024.

We are responsible for the production of mortality statistics using information collected at death registration. As the death certificate does not have information relating to past screening of diseases, we unfortunately do not hold this information.
We do however hold information pertaining to mortality. Data on the numbers and rates of deaths due to bowel cancer by administrative region are available from our explorable dataset available on our NOMIS webservice.
Instructions for using NOMIS:
- Select geography – (England and Wales, regional or by local authority).
- Select age – all ages or 5-year age bands.
- Select gender – total, or male or female.
- Select rates – all deaths, rates or percentage of population, for example.
- Select cause of death – (ICD10 code search is available).
- Select format – (Excel or CSV, for example).
If this does not suit your needs, information on deaths due to bowel cancer by NHS Region, along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order, subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs in line with our Charging Policy. We no longer produce cancer survival statistics. NHS England are now responsible for the production of these statistics. This report provides information on site specific cancer survival. For further information, please contact england.contactus@nhs.net.
We do not hold information on screening uptake. The Bowel cancer screening standards data report provides information on bowel cancer screening for 2023 to 2024.
