You asked
Could you please provide the statistics for each of the registrar's offices in Derbyshire and Cheshire, for the last 5 years, where the entry for cause of death is recorded as cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer).
If your data is at a higher level than district or county classification, then you could please oblige anyway.
We said
Thank you for your enquiry.
We are responsible for the production of mortality and births statistics. These are derived from information collected at the registration of the birth or death. Our deaths data are based on the area of usual residence of the deceased.
Our mortality data come from the information collected at death registration. All of the conditions mentioned on the death certificate are coded using the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10). From all of these causes, an underlying cause of death is selected using ICD-10 coding rules.
The underlying cause of death is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as:
- the disease or injury that initiated the train of events directly leading to death, or
- the circumstances of the accident or violence that produced the fatal injury
The ICD-10 cause code for cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) is:
C22.1 - Intrahepatic bile duct carcinoma
The registrar offices in Derbyshire fall into the following local authorities: Amber Valley, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales, Erewash, High Peak, South Derbyshire. To gain a full picture of the deaths registered in Derbyshire you may want to include all local authorities in Derbyshire.
