Please provide information on the current figures for those claiming benefits in Lincolnshire, East Midlands compared to the country as a whole.

Although we have some information available regarding the number of benefit claimants, we do not have a complete picture.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) provide us with two datasets of information relating to claimants of benefits.

The first is information relating to the Claimant Count. This specifically relates to those who are claiming benefits principally for unemployment related purposes. Prior to 2013, this was based solely on claimants of Jobseeker's Allowance. However, since the introduction of Universal Credit this has additionally included those claimants of this new benefit who were subject to intensive work search criteria in order to qualify for their benefits.

The second dataset relates to working-age claimants of main benefits by client group. This is a more comprehensive grouping of benefits covering the main out-of-work benefit groups. However this dataset still does not give complete coverage as the dataset does not yet include some of the more recently introduced benefits, such as Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payments.

Both these data sources are published for Lincolnshire, with comparisons against East Midlands and Great Britain, on our Nomis website as part of a Labour Market Profile for Lincolnshire;

Whilst these are the only benefit datasets that we have available, DWP have a more complete coverage of benefit claimants and may be able to direct you to their own statistics that more fully meet your requirements.
