You asked

How many autopsies have been Carried out on COVID-19 deaths?

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

The number of COVID-19 related deaths broken down by whether they were referred to a coroner and if a post-mortem was carried out are not readily available. To provide the number of autopsies carried out on Covid-19 deaths we would need to create bespoke analysis.

Please note that we can only provide bespoke tabulations of deaths registered in 2020; data for 2021 are still provisional and cannot be requested on an ad hoc basis until the 2021 data are finalised and published in July 2022.

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.

We may be able to provide autopsy analysis as a bespoke analysis. Such services would fall outside the Freedom of Information regime and would be subject to subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources, and agreements of costs, where appropriate.
