You asked

I want you to publish up-to-date, time-series datasets related to the state of asthma sufferers across the UK including this last year 2025/2026.

Date based aggregations should be no larger than 1 month, ideally daily for best transparency.

Datasets should include: Mortality rates, Hospital admissions, sentiment score of quality of asthma care received, quick relief vs preventative prescriptions fulfilled

Fact columns (Categorical type columns that allow for subset analysis) should include:

  • Dates - ideally daily data for full transparency, failing that weekly/monthly

  • Diagnosis:

  • Asthma

  • COPD

  • Other related lung condition

  • Geo/Loci based Facts like: counties, boroughs, districts, warrens

  • Demographic facts: (that GDPR allows)

  • age / age bracket

  • sex/gender

  • ethnicity

  • weight / weight brackets

  • height / height brackets

  • reported smoker

  • reported vaper

Measurable columns (numeric columns that mathematical operations can be applied to)

  • Mortality Rates

  • Hospital admissions

  • Quality of care score (sentiment based, may not be possible but I have seen this as a measure for some national statistics?)

  • Total number of quick relief prescriptions fulfilled

  • Total number of preventative prescriptions fulfilled

And anything else you can think of that would / should be included that would allow users to perform a useful data science study / review on the topic.

The date ranges should be from 01/01/2026 to as far back as the quality of the data can allow.

Thank you for your request.

We are responsible for the production of mortality statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

Our mortality statistics are derived from information collected at death registration. We do not hold any information on hospital admissions, sentiment scores, treatment or prescriptions. This information may be available from NHS England and Digital Health and Care Wales. The death registration does not provide details on the weight, height or smoking/vaping status of the deceased. Therefore, we do not hold that information.

Some of the information you required on deaths due to specified respiratory diseases, deaths registered between 2001 and 2018 has been published in this user requested dataset.

Annual mortality rates by age and sex, for the conditions you have requested are available from our explorable dataset available on our NOMIS webservice. This service provides information on deaths registered between 2013 and 2024. Our user requested data service detailed below can provide monthly figures (but not rates) if required.

Instructions for use of NOMIS:

-   Select geography (England and Wales, regional, or by local authority)

-   Select age (all ages, or five-year age bands)

-   Select gender (total, or male or female)

-   Select rates (all births, rates, or percentage of population, for example)

-   Select the ICD10 code for the underlying cause of death

-   Select format (Excel or CSV, for example)

The ICD 10 codes for asthma are J45-J46, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is coded to J40-J44 plus J47. ICD 10 codes for additional specified respiratory diseases can be found on the World Health Organisation website.

We are still in the data collection process for deaths registered in 2025 and 2026. However, via our user requested data service we can we can create a custom output. Information on the provisional number of deaths due to asthma and COPD, deaths registered in 2025 and 2026, along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order, subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs in line with our charging policy.

Such enquiries can be made to Health.data@ons.gov.uk.

As the information we hold in scope of this request is reasonably accessible via another route, even if only accessible on payment, Section 21(2)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies.
