We said
You made a freedom of information request to obtain data on alcohol-related deaths in England between 2015 and 2016, and for data on these deaths split by age.
Following user consultation, we recently started to publish data on deaths that are exclusively caused by alcohol misuse, known as alcohol-specific deaths. Our previous definition of alcohol-related deaths included deaths from alcohol-specific causes in addition to some other causes where the misuse of alcohol explained a proportion of the total deaths (partially attributable causes). To help understand the wider burden of alcohol misuse on mortality in England, Public Health England (PHE) provide an indicator of alcohol-related deaths in their Local Area Alcohol Profiles. PHE's alcohol-related measure counts deaths from alcohol-specific causes in addition to deaths from a large range of partially attributable causes. The data can be obtained via the following link:
