Please can you confirm and provide information on the number of accusations of abuse from those in adult care.

Thank you for your enquiry. I am sorry that we cannot answer your question because the information we hold on crimes recorded by the police only include aggregate counts of offences. At the stage of recording that a crime has taken place, the police categorise offences according to the Home Office Counting Rules and these often differ from the list of offences which individuals are prosecuted against.

For example, offences of violent abuse of adults in care will generally be subsumed within the various categories of assault and are not separately identifiable at the stage at which the police record crimes. The Crown Prosecution Service, will have further information on detailed successful and unsuccessful prosecutions for more specific offences. For example, prosecutions in relation to ill-treatment or neglect under section 127 of the Mental Health Act 1983.
