The cross-government Data Architecture Community (GDAC) is a cross-government collaborative network containing sub-groups (smaller communities of practice) that brings together anyone who works in or around the field of data architecture in local, regional, devolved and central government. We discuss good practice, challenges that we currently face and work together as data architects towards better data-sharing and interoperability throughout government.
The membership of this community is jointly managed by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO), part of the Cabinet Office. As the membership is jointly managed by the ONS and CDDO, the data we hold for members are also shared between the ONS and CDDO.

The personal data that we collect
The personal data we process about you include your:
How we collect your data and why we have it
We collect your data when you send an email to the email@example.com inbox requesting to join the GDAC community. An existing member of GDAC may send this request on your behalf.
We use the information that you have given to us to:
update the GDAC Welcome Pack for new GDAC members
perform analysis on the make-up of the GDAC community including using job titles to establish the percentage of members who are data architects, and using organisations to establish the coverage of different government departments
send out meeting invites
send out bulletins and any other informative information to the GDAC community
How long we keep your data
We will retain your account and data for as long as you wish to belong to the GDAC membership.
How can you ask for your data to be deleted
If you wish for your data to no longer be held, this effectively means you wish to be removed from the GDAC membership.
If you wish to have your data deleted, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. On actioning your request, we will notify you that you have been removed from the GDAC membership, and your data have been removed from our systems.
Where is your data stored
The ONS uses an electronic filing system to manually manage our GDAC membership list. This is only accessible to a chosen group of stakeholder relationship managers within the ONS and the Community Manager in CDDO, and is used to:
- put members in touch with each other where this is mutually beneficial (for example, for sharing knowledge or seeking advice on issues)
The legal basis for processing
Data protection legislation requires that all processing of personal data is undertaken under one or more of a set list of conditions. Unless stated otherwise all ONS processing of stakeholder personal data is undertaken under the following condition:
"Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller."
The ONS is a statutory body, meaning we were created by legislation, specifically the Statistics and Registration Service Act 2007, with the objective of promoting and safeguarding the production and publication of official statistics that serve the public good. All our collection and use of data comes from powers that can be found in that Act or other UK legislation. A full list of all the legislation that we use is available.
Changes to this notice
We may modify or amend this privacy notice at our discretion at any time. When we make changes to this notice, we will amend the last modified date at the top of this web page. Any modification or amendment to this privacy notice will be applied to you and your data as of that revision date. If these changes affect how your personal data are processed, we will take reasonable steps to make sure you know.
Your rights as a data subject
As a data subject (someone whose personal data we hold) you have rights available to you under data protection legislation. The Office for National Statistics's (ONS's) use of a "public task" legal basis does not impact your rights as a data subject. If you want us to stop processing your personal data (for example, removal from a contact list), please email: email@example.com.
