You asked

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 I seek the following information:

  1. The total number of accidents caused by a cyclist and pedestrian collision in London over the past two years (or the most recent time period possible).

  2. The total number of accidents caused by a cyclist and vehicle collision in London over the past two years (or the most recent time period possible).

  3. The total number of fatalities caused by cyclist and pedestrian collisions over the past two years.

  4. The total number of fatalities caused by cyclist and vehicle collisions over the past two years.

If possible I would be most grateful if you could be as specific as possible about who was the injured party (i.e. the cyclist or the pedestrian).

Thank you for your enquiry.

We publish mortality statistics for England and Wales. Data for 2013-2016 is available from our explorable dataset:

https://www.nomisweb.co.uk/query/select/getdatasetbytheme.asp?theme=73

You can filter the data by geography, age, sex and underlying cause. Underlying cause is coded using the International Classification of Diseases, Version 10 (ICD-10) where the full definition of codes are available here:

http://apps.who.int/classifications/icd10/browse/2014/en#/V01-V99

Deaths involving cyclist and pedestrian collisions would be assigned one of the following ICD-10 codes:

  • V01 - Pedestrian injured in collision with pedal cycle

  • V10 - Pedal cyclist injured in collision with pedestrian or animal

  • V19 - Pedal cyclist injured in other and unspecified transport accidents

Deaths involving cyclist and vehicle collisions would be assigned one of the following ICD-10 codes:

  • V12 - Pedal cyclist injured in collision with two- or three-wheeled motor vehicle

  • V13 - Pedal cyclist injured in collision with car, pick-up truck or van

  • V14 - Pedal cyclist injured in collision with heavy transport vehicle or bus

  • V21 - Motorcycle rider injured in collision with pedal cycle

  • V31 - Occupant of three-wheeled motor vehicle injured in collision with pedal cycle

  • V41 - Car occupant injured in collision with pedal cycle

  • V51 - Occupant of pick-up truck or van injured in collision with pedal cycle

  • V61 - Occupant of heavy transport vehicle injured in collision with pedal cycle

  • V71 - Bus occupant injured in collision with pedal cycle

We do not publish statistics for the number of accidents involving a pedal cycles. These are available from the Department for Transport:
