Deaths involving COVID-19 continue to rise in the UK

The number of deaths involving COVID-19 in the UK continued to rise from 605 to 619 in the latest week (ending 17 March 2023).
There were a total of 13,683 deaths registered in the UK in the latest week, which was 9.3% above the five-year average.
Deaths involving COVID-19 accounted for 4.5% of all deaths in the UK in the latest week; this is a fall from 4.6% in the previous week.
Of all deaths involving COVID-19 registered in the UK in the latest week 512 were registered in England, 47 in Wales, 56 in Scotland and 4 in Northern Ireland.
In England, the number of deaths involving COVID-19 varied across age groups.
There were no deaths involving COVID-19 among those aged 0 to 0. COVID-19 deaths were low among those aged 1 to 44 years.
Deaths involving COVID-19 fell in all English regions except the North West, the East of England and the South West, where they rose.
