Our data sources have different geographical coverage and data collection periods, so please make comparisons with caution. The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic may have also affected data collection and statistics.

We are moving from updating the UK Measures of National Well-being (UKMNW) Dashboard quarterly to updating it annually, starting in June 2026.

Changes in estimates are displayed over the short term. This is defined as the latest estimate compared with five years ago for Protected areas, Priority species, Air pollution and Surface water status. For Healthy life expectancy, Unhappy partner relationships and Depression or Anxiety it is defined as the latest estimate compared with the closest non-overlapping period. Short-term change for all other measures is assessed as the latest estimate compared with one year ago. For more information on our methods, please see our UK Measures of National Well-being framework user guide.
