In the 12 months to June 2016 there were 67.6 million visits abroad made by UK residents. This was an increase of 8% when compared with the same period a year earlier. These residents spent £40.7 billion abroad, a 12% increase than in the same 12 months to June 2015.
Visits abroad to watch sport increased in June 2016. There were over 100,000 visits to France and Belgium during the European Championships.
Overseas residents made 9.8 million visits to the UK in the 3 months to June 2016, a fall of 2% when compared with the 3 months to June 2015. Earnings fell by 6% over this time to £5.5 billion.
