Dataset Consumer price inflation time series

The Office for National Statistics has been carrying out a routine review of centrally collected prices data, as part of the ongoing work to improve and automate the production system that underpins consumer price inflation.

As part of this work, a minor error has been identified in the consumer price inflation item for “package holidays”. This error has no impact on the published headline rate of inflation for the Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers’ housing costs (CPIH), the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) or the Retail Prices Index (RPI).

The error is isolated to package holidays and would have led to the recreation and culture division annual inflation rate being 0.1 percentage points lower in May 2025 for both CPIH and CPI.

In line with our consumer prices revisions and corrections policy, these statistics will not be amended.

We have introduced additional checks and automated processes to prevent a reoccurrence of this error and will continue to review our production systems as part of our commitment to continually improve our statistics. We apologise for this error.
