Exploring local income deprivation
A detailed picture of disparities within English local authorities to a neighbourhood level
24 May 2021
Economic inequalities are not just regional, as we explored in this release on income and productivity — but can occur between neighbourhoods too.
This article looks at levels of income deprivation, which is based on the proportion of people in an area who are out of work or on low earnings.
More information
This article is part of a two-part interactive series on economic disparities, the first part of which showed regional level differences in household income and productivity across the UK.
The local level analysis in this publication was based on income deprivation as recorded in the English Indices of Multiple Deprivation, 2019, and is influenced by Alasdair Rae and Elvis Nyanzu's An English Atlas of Inequality.
Data tables have been published alongside this release for easier reference.
