We said

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request about the racial characteristics of London boroughs.

The most up-to-date official estimates of the population by ethnic group and religion are from the 2011 Census.

The most recent information we have published (4 December 2019) is a Research report on population estimates by ethnic group and religion and accompanying dataset: Population characteristics research tables. These data are for England and Wales and lower-level areas within them for 2016. Please note: these illustrative estimates are not official statistics.

We have also published a research paper into methods of producing ethnic population estimates; Population Estimates by Ethnic Group. The data in this paper are experimental statistics so please read the information given. A link to the tables can be found in the introduction under 'a research note' then on the next screen on the right hand side under 'Related downloads', 'Population Characteristics Research Tables – Aug 17'.

In addition, we have recently published the following user requested data:

Population denominators by ethnic group, regions and countries: England and Wales, 2011 to 2018

Population denominators by broad ethnic group and for White British: local authorities in England and Wales, 2011 to 2017

NB: These denominators are neither National Statistics nor standard published experimental statistics and have not been produced using methods which have undergone formal Quality Assurance. They have been produced specifically for use as part of the Race Disparity Audit, following discussion with the Race Disparity Unit of their specific requirements and time-frame.

When accessing any of our files please read the 'notes, terms and conditions' contained within them.
