Thank you for your enquiry relating to hate crime and racially or religiously motivated incidents.

The Home Office produce an annual publication titled 'Hate Crime, England and Wales'. The 2014 to 2015 release was published on the 13th October 2015, here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/hate-crime-england-and-wales-2014-to-2015

And previous releases of the ‘Hate Crime Statistics’ can be found here;

https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/hate-crime-statistics

Table 2.01 in the appendix tables contains data for recorded crime by police force area and region, broken down by monitored hate crime strands. This will include the total number of police recorded racist hate crimes and the total number of police recorded religious hate crimes for the London area. This data is available for the periods April 2011 to March 2012 to April 2014 to March 2015. However, please note that this does not provide a breakdown by ‘Faith Hate Crime’ or ‘Islamophobic Hate Crime’.

Table 3.01 in the appendix tables show the number of police recorded racist incidents for the London area, for the periods of April 2010 to March 2011 to April 2014 to March 2015.

Appendix tables for the most recent release can be found here;

https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/hate-crime-england-and-wales-2014-to-2015

Please note that the Home Office is responsible for this publication, which includes both police recorded data and Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) data. The appendix tables I have directed you to display police recorded crime data, as this can be broken down by police force area. Police recorded crime data and CSEW data are not directly comparable.

The next version of the 'Hate crime, England and Wales' publication (Hate crime, England and Wales, 2015 to 2016), which will cover the time period of April 2015 to March 2016, is not due to be published by the Home Office until Autumn of this year.

It is not possible to separately identify the number of tourists who are victims of hate crime or racially/religiously motivated crime as this information is not collected by the police. It would not be possible to collect this data using the CSEW, as the sample for the survey is restricted to residents in England and Wales.

If you have any further questions relating to hate crime you can contact the Home Office at crimeandpolicestats@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk.

For future reference, you do not need to use a Freedom of Information request to ask for data. It is usually quicker to simply email us at CrimeStatistics@ons.gov.uk and we will endeavour to help.
