Thank you for your email requesting data pertaining to 1991 Census statistics for the child population in England.

The following Office for National Statistics (ONS) webpage is a quick guide to 1991 and earlier Censuses: https://www.ons.gov.uk/census/2001censusandearlier/aquickguideto1991andearliercensuses

Statistics for the 1991 Census may be found from the following Nomis webpage: http://www.nomisweb.co.uk/query/select/getdatasetbytheme.asp?theme=77

For example, depending on the exact nature of your article, you might choose "1991 census - local base statistics", then select 'Geography = England". Now, by selecting "Cell", you can see the full range of available tables.

There were a number of Topic reports published (not electronically) in 1991. These included reports on the topic of "Children and Young Adults".

Two attached tables (available from Census Customer Services) provide a scan of two of these reports and give statistics (for single year of age) for the child population in England in 1991.

They are:

01_Children & Young Adults_Tab 01.xls: Residents aged under 16 by sex, residence type, migrant and with long term illness

and in the event that you require children of 16-18,

02_Children & Young Adullts_Tab 02.xls: Residents aged 16 - 29 by sex , residence type, migrant, marital status and with long term illness

If you have any further questions you may contact Census Customer Services directly. They will be glad to deal with any census related queries.
