Today we have published an ad hoc release of headline data from the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Infection Survey. This includes our official and modelled estimates nationally and regionally and by the new variant of COVID-19. This ad hoc release is based on the Community Infection Survey produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which is both objective and impartial.

To provide the latest data as they became available during the holiday period, we temporarily adjusted our production cycle. Today’s publication is the last ad hoc data release in advance of our regular weekly bulletin, which will be published on Friday 8 January 2021 at 12pm and will include all data that we regularly publish.

These early results are being published due to the heightened public interest during this stage of the pandemic, in line with the value principle of the UK Statistics Authority’s Code of Practice for Statistics.

In line with our wider continuous improvement work around the statistics we produce and publish and to ensure we continue to meet the needs of society, we are reviewing our publication schedule.

The data published today can be found in the Estimates of COVID-19 cases to 2 January ad hoc release.
