Thank you for your enquiry around crime and ethnicity.

Official statistics on crime are based on two main sources, police recorded crime, which is collected by the Home Office, and the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW). While Home Office police recorded crime data are not available broken down by ethnicity of the victims, data from the CSEW are.

We publish tables annually that include a breakdown of victims of crime by ethnicity, as reported to the CSEW. The Annual Trend and Demographic tables published alongside our Crime in England and Wales: year ending March 2018 contain data on the proportion of victims of crime, broken down by ethnicity of the victim:

These tables are available online going back to the year ending March 2013, with data for the years 2018 to 2015 being found on our main website, and for 2014 and 2013 being found on our archive site:

We only hold data on the victims of crime, and we therefore do not hold any data on the ethnicity of suspects or perpetrators. There are, however, a couple of other sources of information which may be of use to you. There is a dashboard created by the race disparity unit, which displays breakdowns by ethnicity for various topics, including crime and justice:

There is also a publication by the Ministry of Justice, entitled Race and the Criminal Justice System, which includes data from across the criminal justice system broken down by ethnicity. The latest version of this was published in November 2017, and covers data for the year ending March 2016:
